Here’s How to Maintain an Air Purifier

224

Air purifiers work by filtering and cleaning the air that passes through them. They use different filters, such as HEPA and activated carbon filters, to trap particles, pollutants, and other harmful substances. HEPA filters capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, making them highly effective at removing allergens, such as dust mites, pollen, and pet dander.

Activated carbon filters absorb chemicals and odors from the air, such as tobacco smoke and cooking fumes. Some air purifiers also use UV-C light and ionizers to sterilize the air and attract particles. Overall, purifiers provide a valuable way to improve air quality and reduce respiratory issues caused by pollutants and allergens in the air. Read on to learn more about purifiers.

Electrostatic Air Purifiers

Electrostatic purifiers aren’t as popular as other types of air purifiers. While electrostatic purifiers may have lower maintenance costs, they’re very efficient. They work by using electricity to power the plates, which may produce ozone, a harmful component.

Ionizers

Ion generators release ions into the air, which can combine with pollutants, causing them to become heavier and either be dropped on the floor or sucked into the filtration system. While the ionization process can effectively clean the air, it can also lead to ozone production. With no maintenance required, ionizers can be operated for years without encountering any issues.

Tips on Air Purifier Usage and Maintenance:

-Ensure the vicinity of the air purifier is clean.

-Regularly monitor the air purifier’s filter indicator.

-Perform routine cleaning on washable pre-filters.

-Position the air purifier in a location where it can draw in air unrestrictedly.

-Avoid placing any objects on top of the air purifier.

-Don’t use detergents or other solvents to cleanse the air purifier.

-Turn off the purifier before unplugging it.

-Before cleaning, switch off and unplug the air purifier.

-Use either a dry or damp cloth to wipe down the exterior parts of the air purifier.

-Exclusively use a dry cloth to clean the interior of the air purifier.

-Avoid washing HEPA and carbon filters; never vacuum them.

-Clean permanent filters every three months.
